Finding CT Homes For Sale:  Choosing the Right Connecticut Real Estate Agent

Just by entering a the search for CT homes for sale in Connecticut, you will be faced with a myriad of choices as far as the search engine eye can see.  So how do you decipher between the advertisements, the fly-by-night companies, the ones that are out to make a quick buck, and the ones that will properly serve you and your purpose of finding the right home?  Try typing that into a search engine and see what you come up with.

It can be difficult to choose the right Connecticut real estate company, especially if this is your first time purchasing a home in the area.  You are at a double disadvantage because not only have you never heard of any of the agencies in town, but you don’t know the area that well either.  That’s why it is fairly important that you do your research before you sign any form of buyers agreement with a company, broker or agency.

If you are moving from out of state to Connecticut, you may feel more comfortable with a nationwide or at least regional company rather than one that is strictly local to the area you are moving.  It will be a little easier to find references or consumer complaints about these companies and they are often publicly traded which allows the company’s information to be available to the general public.  While you may not care what their stock is worth, it may be good to find out that the CEO was recently indicted.

Not all nationwide companies are best, as noted in the previous example.  Agents for these real estate companies could end up making you feel like just another number on their way to earning a free cruise if you are not selective in your interview process.  Another option is choosing an exclusively Connecticut homes company, particularly one that does most of their work in the area you are interested in.  The good thing about these local companies is just that, they’re local.  You are more likely to get an answer when you call with a question and know who you are dealing with.

The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection regulates the licensing required for most real estate professionals.  Real estate agents, brokers, inspectors, appraisers and attorneys are all required to be licensed and cleared by the state to practice in their field.  It stands to reason that this would be a good place to start looking for your real estate company.  You can verify the status of a professional’s license, file complaints when you feel like they are not following the requirements, or even look up complaints to find out if a local Connecticut real estate company has bent the rules a few too many times.

With the resources that are available to you, there is really no reason to settle for anything less than a Connecticut real estate company that meets or exceeds your expectations.  There are and will always be a few unsavory characters that slip through the cracks of the finely tuned state-regulated departments, which is why it is important to report any real estate company you feel is not abiding by the rules and regulations.  All things considered, if you do your homework you should be able to avoid those companies altogether.
